Why is the Sky Blue? by *haphazard-witch:iconhaphazard-witch:

Everyday is like another; go to school, walk home and continue on like a droid.  But today was different, this little girl waited for someone outside the school doors when I got to school.  When it was time to leave, she stood in the same spot before, looking up into the sky.

“Are you okay?”  I asked but she didn’t answer.  I asked the same question again twice, but still no answer.  So thinking like my mother, I put my hands on the girl’s shoulders and repeated the question for the last time.

“Yah I’m fine.”  The girl answered not taking her eyes off the sky.  I was wondering what was so amusing that made this girl look up into the sky.  And my conclusion was that the girl was weird, like the ones who need help.  There was nothing but blue sky the sun faced out back, and no clouds.

After a minute of thinking and staring, I started home, when the girl spoke to me.

“Why is the sky blue?”  She asked in an innocent voice as she looked at me instead of the sky.  For once, my science classes came in handy.  I was going to start off that the sun’s rays give off different color and that the sky filters them out, leaving only blue in the sky.

“Because it was colored blue by the sun.”  That was it, my stupid answer to a little kid’s question.

“Oh,” the little girl said is despair then looked up at the sky, “I thought that the light was all colors, and the sky filters out the blue making the sky blue.”  I was amazed, she actually knew shy the sky was blue, but she wasn’t done.  “Or that yellow demons fly around the sun and battle to the death, while they bleed blue blood, which then evaporates into a blue mist when it hits the sun, creating the blue color in the sky.”

Okay, so the girl was crazy after all.  She continued to look at the sky as I silently made my escape from the school yard, like a clumsy ninja.  I continued on my way home remembering what the little girl said and looked up in the sky.  I started to think, why the sky was blue too.  And at that exact moment, I swore, I saw something fall right behind me.

I wrote this for English last year, had fun writing it and got an A+ on it too.

Came up with the idea, about two years ago, during Creative Writing. This is what happens to ya when you have free write for about fifteen minutes and have major writers block... you start thinking up strange things.

Enjoy!!!
